THE PARENT CONNECT

My Parents – My world

A question has aroused – where is the parent connect as their child ? As a human race,  we always need a nudge for some  introspection .  With this forced stay back at home, it has given us time to do so. We all have it in us to be nice, polite, caring ,giving and compassionate to others.  But somewhere in this rat race of achieving material success , we have put the above in the  junkyard. Now is the time to dust and rekindle the same. This isnt a big task but  the willingness to do it should come from within.

One such thing is the Parent Connect and give time to our Parents. Most of us are in an age group where we have aging parents in different cities and towns . What is it that they want from us ? Money? Property ? Noooo . Your time , your Love . How easy or difficult is it for us as children.?? Extremely easy !!!  All that they are eagerly waiting is just a phone call from their kids.

Isnt it that simple,  to make a call , listen to all the little things they want to share with their children  and talk to them , ask them about their well being. That’s all they want. Cant we as kids spend 15 mins on a phone call for our parents.

As I recall, I can paint my childhood in a canvas with what I have been bestowed  upon .  Here is an excerpt from my childhood.

The nights mom has stayed up waking me up to study and making tea while I was studying. The sleepless nights  she has pampered me and nursed me when I was unwell. Waiting with hot delicious food when I walk home from school. No wonder I’m such a foodie. Patiently listening to all the cribbing and weaning  I did as a school girl. I would feel she was too strict a mother till I’m one today. I totally understand her fear – to protect me and bring me up with all the good values.  Pecked a goodbye kiss silently  after I had gone to bed.

Dad would cater to all my demands small or big and never got irritated even once. There were instances when Dad did struggle to fulfil my dreams but i was unaware of the challenges he faced. Come to think of  it, I had some stupid unreasonable demands but I wasnt hushed ever.

The things Mom and Dad have done for ME are endless and priceless. What I have highlighted above is like a drop in the ocean. Can I as their child repay what my parents have done for me? Never ! But definitely can make them happy by connecting with my parents regularly, visiting them, spending time with them. This is so simple to The Parent Connect Mantra.

  1. Relate your aspirations for your Children with the Aspirations your Parents had for you. The whole jigsaw puzzle game comes into place. Love flows from top to bottom. A son or a Daughter, even if, in their SIXTIES remains a Child for the parents.
So, why aren’t the Children looking upwards. You will find your role as a parent there-in. Do we grow up so much that parents are irrelevant? Never…..
Love them, give them some time… If you can be hurt sometimes by your kids attitude, so can they be by yours.
Leverage technology… Do video calls… Call once a day … Tell them how you Love them . In your heart this love will just fade away… Express it, bring it to the fore…..
    God Bless
